TCL Group & Readymix (W.I.) Ltd Concrete Cricket Pitch Promotion - Sod Turning Ceremony for the Biche Community

Claxton Bay, Trinidad:
The sod was turned today (March 24) at the Biche Recreation Ground to signal the start of construction of the first of fourteen concrete cricket pitches being donated by the TCL Group and its member company, Readymix (W.I.) Ltd.

Last year, the TCL Group in collaboration with Readymix (WI) Limited hosted a concrete cricket pitch promotion aimed at building concrete cricket pitches in communities across Trinidad & Tobago.

Objectives of Promotion
• To develop the sport of cricket in communities throughout our nation
• To encourage the youth in these communities to occupy their spare time in a constructive way
• To promote the importance of cricket to the social fabric of the Caribbean
• To promote a passion for the game, thereby ensuring the future of local and by extension, West Indian cricket.

A total of 145 entries were submitted for consideration, and were sorted according to the TTCB cricket zones of North, South, Central, East, North East, South East, South West and Tobago. Two (2) communities were selected from each zone (with the exception of Tobago from which no entries were received) along with one (1) alternate should one of the selected communities not meet the necessary requirements. Mr. Aphizal Baksh submitted the winning entry for his community of Biche, which is situated in the North East Zone.

The TCL Group is deeply committed to promoting the sport of cricket throughout the region, as evident by its sponsorship of the regional U19 Cricket Challenge, WIPA Awards and the WIPA 20/20 tournament. The concrete cricket pitches promotion is just another way in which the Group is able to contribute to the community and the sport of cricket….the passion of our Caribbean people.
